Brian Burton Trio

Formed in 2013, the Concord, NC based group is focused on bringing jazz to new audiences. They perform a diverse and accessible mix that spans many musical idioms. Even people who “don’t like jazz” can enjoy this nuanced blend. Those who already do will appreciate the amount stylistic and historical ground covered by the group. The core line-up consists of Brian Burton on drums, Ben Davenport on keys and vocals, and Scott McCloud on bass, while performing with many additional talented artists from the Charlotte region.

Brian Burton has maintained a full-time recording, teaching, and performing career since graduating from the Berklee College of Music in 2001. While attending Berklee, he studied with many legendary drum teachers including Dave DiCenso, Rod Morgenstein, and Kenwood Dennard. He began in his hometown of Grand Rapids, MI teaching at RIT Music and Grace Bible College while freelancing as a performer.

Brian moved to Davidson in 2002 to join Cast Iron Filter. He toured with the band for two year and recorded the RCAM album “Falls of Rough”. From 2005-2010, Brian held the drum chair for Hipshack, a playing many high-profile Charlotte events, including NFL, NBA and NASCAR. From 2010-2015 Brian performed every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday in the house band at Coyote Joes in Charlotte, NC. He also founded and manages Drum-It Mobile Lessons where he stays busy teaching upwards of 40 lessons a week. In early 2017, Brian returned to the drum chair with Hipshack, now one of the southeast’s most in demand private event bands.
